Digital Paintings
"digital art isn't real art", says reputable sources

These are my finished digital pieces, numbered and in reverse chronological order.

The gallery changes all of the time as I post and remove artwork.
The pieces displayed are ones that I can still somewhat tolerate.

August 14th, 2022

Made the switch to using a basic round brush because reasons.

Breakdown [#124]

June 3rd, 2022

May 29th, 2022

Redraw of #67, done back at the end of 2020, which in hindsight looks utterly abysmal.

Morning Coffee 3 [#118]

May 4th, 2022

Created my first lightly animated painting. Probably a fitting piece considering it was monochrome and I didn't have to mess with colours.

Procreate did a stupid and exported a 100MB gif because it didn't optimize it. Had to optimize it through GIMP to get a decently sized file.

The End of an Era [#115]

March 27th, 2022

Used the post-processing technique I discovered a while ago that somewhat emulates an impasto effect.

Making amends to my process to make it more consistent. Tighter rendering to start and then adding subtle strokes on top to make it look traditionally painted. I like the texture I managed to create with this process + post-processing mix. We'll see if it sticks.

February 25th, 2022

Minamitsu Murasa from Touhou Project.

Went rather crazy with the water. I intended it to serve a compositional purpose rather than making it look accurate to real life.

For my process, I merged the sketch layer with the paint layer, making the lines a darker red and then painting on top. Kind of made my life easier in some ways and made it harder in others. Will keep this in the back of my mind.

Dethroned [#111]

February 20th, 2022

Was intending this to be a brighter and simpler piece but it turned rather dark.

Sometimes the piece just calls to go in a different direction and you don't really have a choice but to follow it. I find that it leads to a better, more coherent final product.

Welcome to the Underground [#110]

February 4th, 2022

A rare instance where I did some colour thumbnails to prep for the final piece. Couldn't decide to do a daytime or nighttime scene, but I found through the thumbnails that a nighttime scene will read better compositionally wise.

I should probably do this more for my pieces. It feels like I'm wasting time, but it prevents me from committing to a composition that I can't revoke without starting over.

Gratitude [#107]

January 6th, 2022

January 3rd, 2022

Redraw of a piece I did back in April 2021 that I really didn't like.

After School [#105]

December 30th, 2021

I was intending this to have a more saturated red-blue colour palette but since I typically start my painting process with desaturated colours it ended up being a pseudo-sunset scene with pinks and purples.

One of those happy accidents, I suppose.

October 20th, 2021

I did a redraw of an old Inktober 2017 entry.

I've tried like twice to redraw this, both of which failed. This is one that actually came out decent. The pose + perspective combination kind of threw me for a loop, though.

October 6th, 2021

Prompt: Noir

I created my rabbit detective OCs (from piece #90) into a noir comic/film style for an art event in my university.

Tried doing 5-point perspective. It was quite annoying to deal with. I couldn't follow proper guidelines since 4/5 of the vanishing points were off the canvas.

Also deviated from my painterly approach and did some lining. I don't really enjoy it so I don't do it often.

September 5th, 2021

Experimented with using the Overlay layer blend mode to make the figure fit the ambient lighting. Somewhat worked, but I personally found it rather odd to work in this manner.

Party Crashers [#90]

September 4th, 2021

Painted a rabbit detective duo that I've had on the idea backburner for quite a long time.

June 22nd, 2021

Was trying out a new brushset for this one.

January 9th, 2021

This was based off of a doodle in one of my very old journals.

January 4th, 2021

A repaint of a piece that I created back in Inktober 2017
(see this art journal entry for more details).

Burnout [#64]

December 8th, 2020

Enough [#57]

July 22nd, 2020

Abstract Caverns [#55]

July 18th, 2020

This was originally meant to be an abstract painting. Around halfway through I started seeing more of a cavernous landscape so I developed it to fit that theme instead.

July 11th, 2020

July 9th, 2020

This painting was based from a dream I had back in 2018, where everyone got stuck inside the subway train and I reluctantly pried the doors open with a crowbar (which I had for some reason) to open the train doors. Only the colour palette and the environment was translated to the painting.

Starry Cloak [#47]

June 26th, 2020

Night Fishing [#45]

June 21st, 2020

My first painting after nearly a year of hiatus.

This was also the first original painting I made using Krita.
